TASTING NOTE

Taken from a single vineyard in the cooler area of Eden Valley, Barossa. Grown on an ancient podzolic soil with a low fertility. The wine has intense ruby colour with a bouquet of red and dark berry fruits balanced with black pepper and spice. The shiraz is crafted to enhance the rich, dark red and blackberry fruits, with 40% new French oak for a minimum of 24 months resulting in an elegant, silky tannin finish. Extended aging in the bottle before release integrates the unique characters of this premium Shiraz over time. Vegan Friendly.

About the Label

Crafted in an elegant, perfumed style of Shiraz and heralding from the higher altitude Eden Valley region, the Argos Shiraz is a sophisticated single vineyard wine, our accolade to the Barossa’s most well-known varietal.

“The Odyssey”, written by Homer in 800 B.C., mentions the legend of Argos, a faithful greyhound waiting for his master Odysseus to return after 20 years fighting the Trojans.  When he finally does return home, he disguises himself as a beggar and the only one to recognise him was his loyal greyhound Argos.

Reviews

It is a superb regional expression showing Eden Valley’s renowned more savoury style and, in this case, the benefits of age. The colour remains deep and opens up with beef stock, soy sauce, blackberry, sage and spice aromas well supported by high quality oak. The palate is then quite muscular – acidity and ripe tannins supporting its rich layers of dark berry and black olive tapenade flavours. Earthy, mushroom complexity is also in the mix suggesting this wine is close to its peak, but no doubt has the balance to hold for at least another five years.- Angus Hughson, 94 points
